The period film was a massive hit in Mollywood
Here is a really exciting news for fans of Malayalam cinema. The epic action drama film Urumi is going to be released all over the country now. Vidya Balan came across this grand plan when she visited director Kiran Kumar in Mumbai for a photoshoot. In this meeting, the director spilled the beans on releasing dubbed versions of Urumi all across the country in different languages, just like the SS Rajamouli’s epic Baahubali had done last year.
The original film hit the screens over six years ago in 2011. It starred many famous actors and actresses like Prithviraj, Prabhu Dheva, Genelia D Souza and Vidya Balan of course. Tabu also made a special appearance in this period film. Urumi was directed by Kerala based cinematographer and director Santosh Sivan. It was a highly acclaimed movie at that time and Kiran feels that the dubbed versions will also be very successful as all the cast has a great following in North.
Urumi is based on the colonial era and focuses on the life of the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama and his journey through 16 century India. Kiran Kumar got on with the concept of re releasing the film after he observed the success of Baahubali and realised the potential of such historical films.
All the cast of the original will be seen promoting the Hindi version of the film which is titled as Ek Yoddha Shoorveer. Vidya is currently working on Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani sequel and will appear in a special video promoting the film.
